News: Scots Makar Liz Lochhead visited Scottish Youth Theatre and met with Summer Festival participants.

Today we had the pleasure of welcoming the Scots Makar and SYT patron Liz Lochhead to the Old Sheriff Court.

Liz had a lively chat with the cast of Thebans, gave them valuable advice, and even read some of her early poems together with more recent pieces for all Summer Festival participants.

She said: “I am extremely proud to be a patron of Scottish Youth Theatre. The work of the company is invaluable; it’s a melting pot for young people who love theatre, enabling them to experience all aspects of it. Youth theatre is a great start to a career in the arts, but also a great place to learn all sorts of skills, make friends for life and discover who you are.”

“Scottish Youth Theatre did a fantastic job with my play Mary Queen of Scots Got Her Head Chopped Off two years ago. It was the best version I had seen in years. I very much look forward to seeing Thebans staged by this talented group of young actors.”
