Summer 2017 Technical Theatre Course (16 - 25)

Suitable for young people aged 16 – 25, no experience necessary.

Dates: 3 July – 5 August 2017

Course Duration: 5 weeks.  

Location and times; : Course is based in Glasgow and includes evening and weekend sessions. Average day runs 9:30am – 9pm

Cost: £600*  including a non refundable £20 interview fee which must be paid at registration

Entry: Online application with interview in person or via skype 

Deadline: Applications must be received by Fri 31 March. Interview will take place end of April.

This course gives participants the opportunity to experience the skills and disciplines involved in technical theatre and production. Learning from industry professionals, experience first-hand the wide breadth of technical tasks involved in mounting a production. Gain unique behind the scenes access to some of Glasgow’s high profile venues. 
Participants also become the technical team for the National Ensemble 2017 summer production and assist with the technical and design elements of our Summer Courses.


  • Learn about set and costume design, lighting and sound design and operation, stage management, prop sourcing and prop making
  • Mentoring and guidance from professional theatre practitioners 
  • Be part of a professional Stage Management team, applying your skills to a real production 


The Summer Courses are open to all young people and we are determined to make them as accessible as we possibly can.

  • If the cost of the courses is providing a barrier to attendance, then please still apply. We can work with you on a payment plan that is manageable for you.   • The building has lift access to all levels.
