Contribute to Scotland's theatre makers of the future!
This November pay day, turn your back on the commercialisation of Black Friday and instead join an online movement that invests in the future of the young people of Scotland!
#GivingTuesday takes place on 27 November - straight after Black Friday and Cyber Monday. It’s a day to do good stuff for charity, so we are joining in the fun!
In December we will be revealing the young people who will form the 2019 National Ensemble - a company of people aged 16 – 25 who have been selected for their exceptional potential as performers and theatre makers. They will spend the year travelling around Scotland, working with top practitioners to develop their skills. They will then work intensively with a professional theatre director to devise and perform a new piece of theatre.
This #GivingTuesday we ask for you to contribute to their learning by making a donation so they can take their show on a national tour in 2019.
There is no cost for any member to participate and SYT provides bursaries to cover additional costs. However, a national tour and production can cost anything from £30,000 upwards. The experience of touring is one we are keen to offer the 2019 company members after receiving feedback from this year’s company. Current Ensemble participant Daniel Cawley (19) explains;
“I learned so much being part of SYT National Ensemble. Taking our own production, VENT., on a national tour was something I had never experienced before. I feel I have developed valuable skills and the discipline required to pursue a career in the industry. I hope many Ensemble members to come get to benefit from this as much as I did.”
Every donation is absolutely vital in investing in these young people’s futures as our CEO Jacky Hardacre goes on to explain
“No matter what you can afford, we are grateful for any amount. Every penny will go towards providing these young people with an unrivalled experience which will help them take their next steps towards a promising career in theatre and performance. As a thank you for making this performance happen, we will include your name in the production’s programme.”
So on 27 November, whether it is pennies or pounds, we ask you to turn that Tuesday into #GivingTuesday for Scotland’s theatre makers of the future.
