Summer Courses is Scottish Youth Theatre’s flagship event and will celebrate its 40th year in 2016. Intensive performance courses allow young people to build on their personal, social and performance skills in a professional theatre environment.
Summer Courses offer a range of opportunities for young people aged 8-25 to get involved.

We offer intensive courses for ages 14-25 years covering all aspects of theatre, including production, acting and stage management. Shorter courses available for ages 8-15.

Ideal for those who are interested in studying acting and performance with a view to pursuing a career or further education.
The Performance and Production Learning Programme offers young people the opportunity to perform in Scottish Youth Theatre’s main house production, receive specialist tuition and work towards an SQA Credit Rated qualification at SCQF Level 7 with 29 Credit Points. The qualification sits on the SCQF alongside Advanced Higher.
Ideal course for those interested in performance as a career or as a creative outlet to explore transferable skills. This course is ideal preparation for those considering further education in the performing arts.
The Performance and Production Course provides young people with the opportunity to be part of Scottish Youth Theatre’s main house production whilst developing their performance skills and stagecraft.
The Technical Theatre Course gives participants the opportunity to experience the skills and disciplines involved in technical theatre and production.
The Intermediate Course allows participants to experience being part of a Summer Course main house shows as part of the ensemble or to devise their own show.
A popular performance course, ideal for young people who want to develop their theatre techniques and skills. Over 2 weeks, participants will work on acting skills, choreography, music and characterisation to create and rehearse a devised piece of theatre to be performed in a professional theatre venue on the last day.
A fun introduction to the world of drama and performance, ideal for young people who want to further their skills and knowledge. On the course participants will work on general drama skills, explore movement, characterisation and storytelling to create a unique performance to be presented in a professional theatre venue on the last day.
