ABOUT

ACCESS & SUPPORT

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW…

We believe in supporting and enabling all young people with an interest and passion for theatre and the arts to achieve their creative potential. New voices and new theatre are at the heart of Scottish Youth Theatre; a failure to represent all voices in our work is a failure of mission.

That’s why all opportunities with us are free to participate and we cover the costs of travel and accommodation when participants need to be away from home. We also aim to cover the full cost of young people’s access needs while they are working with us and there are no eligibility criteria to benefit from this. The level of support may be dependent on the funding that we have available for the project.

In the past we have provided things like:

  • Sensory noise defenders for neurodiverse participants
  • Data packages for people with low internet provision while engaging in digital projects
  • Contribution towards the costs of a carer during an intensive rehearsal period
  • A drama workshop assistant to support a young person participate more fully in project activity

Also at no cost to participants, we work with wellbeing specialists Pure Potential Scotland to provide workshops on mental health and wellbeing as well as 1-2-1 therapeutic sessions. This has been a rewarding partnership since 2019, which has made an immeasurable difference to young people’s progression in our programme and beyond.

We are keen to discuss your needs, how we can best support them and how we can improve our practice for the future. If you have any questions or would like to get in touch about access, please email our Artistic Producer Annie at annie@scottishyouththeatre.org
