This October half term, Scottish Youth Theatre are inviting young people to learn all the tricks of the theatrical trade. They are offering workshops for 8 – 11 and 12 – 15 year olds who are interested in performing on stage and screen or working behind the scenes. The sessions include a variety of theatrical disciplines including acting to camera, make-up, costumes, comedy, playwriting and you can even write and perform your own music track!
Scottish Youth Theatre’s Associate Director Karen McGrady-Parker states;
¨We have invited highly trained and extremely passionate theatre professionals to lead each course so the young people who join us will really benefit from the knowledge of those working in the industry.
The tutors are very experienced at delivering these workshops and are happy to work with participants from all backgrounds and all levels of experience¨.
One o f the workshops for the 8 – 11 year old group was inspired by Karen’s recent trip to the cinema
¨I went to see the BFG with my children and I loved it! So I decided to dedicate one of the sessions to the magic of Roald Dahl. In this session, the participants will work with a director to bring to life some of the zany charcters, Dahl’s splendiferous universe!¨
At the end of each day the participants can invite their friends, families or carers to an informal sharing of their work. However, one sharing does come with a warning as Karen adds
¨The make-up artists are so good that participants may not be as easily identifiable to their loved ones as you may think!¨
The classes take place Mon 17 – Fri 21 October 10am – 5pm. Sessions last one day and participants can take part in as many days as they wish (subject to availability). To view the full class timetable visit www.scottishyouththeatre.org
