JOIN THE team to lead young theatre-makers in aberdeen on a week-long intensive around performance, devising and collaboration IN october.
Scottish Youth Theatre is looking for an inspiring Lead Artist to deliver Shapeshift Aberdeen. The project comprises a week-long intensive course of workshops for local young theatre-makers (aged 17-25) to enhance their devising and theatre-making skills towards making new collaborative work. Your role will be to support up to 20 young people on a dynamic journey through the week, exploring ways into devising theatre, leading to a light touch sharing at His Majesty’s Theatre Studio for an invited audience.
As Lead Artist, you need to be a facilitator, mentor and collaborator – able to hold the room with a group of young artists and support their development as theatre-makers. You must be able to bring and apply a devising tool kit of provocations and exercises, and a clear sense of how you will guide young people through a 5-day devising process. Scottish Youth Theatre places its values at the centre of its work. The work we produce must be creatively adventurous, collaborative, with care and integrity woven throughout.
Scottish Youth Theatre is committed to career development for young, early career artists and provide traineeship opportunities alongside every project. Part of the Lead Artist role will be to mentor and guide a selected Trainee Artist, aged between 18-25, who will assist you and the project delivery throughout. You will support them to deliver aspects of the work, designed to build their confidence, develop their practice and broaden their knowledge and experience of facilitation.
This is a freelance contract at a total fee of £1,320 – which includes 5 full days of delivery at £750, and 3 days of prep, meetings and evaluation at £190 per day. Travel costs and accommodation in Aberdeen will be provided if required.
