Open Call for Revolution Collectives

About the project

RESURGENCE is a Scottish and international creative inquiry into the public concern of inequality, to support the recovery and renewal of youth arts provision as it emerges from the confines of 2020.

Spearheaded by three Revolution Collectives of young people and one Evolution Collective of creative professionals, the foundations of RESURGENCE are rooted in anti-racism and activism, emotional health and wellbeing, equity and social justice. This is an intersectional collaboration.

Scottish Youth Theatre takes an intersectional approach to dismantling barriers to participation. As part of addressing barriers to participation in the arts, RESURGENCE is for young people (14-25) who experience inequalities, with an emphasis on mental ill health, poverty and racism.

Each Revolution Collective will be a safe space for young people who face inequalities, and one Revolution Collective will be led by Intercultural Youth Scotland specifically for young people who experience racism.

Revolution Collectives

This is an open call to join one of three Revolution Collectives. You will work with a Creative Collaborator and a Trainee Arts Leader to gather evidence, give testimony and make recommendations in artistic form, for greater equity in the arts and wider society. The goal of the Revolution Collectives is to produce creative expressions, shaped collaboratively through the inquiry process. This might be a performance, a manifesto, a podcast – or something else!

Revolution Collectives will meet online on a weekly basis from mid-April to mid-August 2021. This will be for two hours on a designated weekday evening, though specific days are still to be confirmed. Additionally, you will be invited to participate in international conversations and events, through our partnerships with the INDRA Congress and International Teaching Artist Collaborative.

You will also take part in Anti-racism Training with Intercultural Youth Scotland and Mental Health, Wellbeing and Resilience Workshops with Pure Potential Scotland. These sessions will be out-with the regular weekly meeting times.

There are 10 spaces available on each Revolution Collective (30 in total). We may receive more than 30 applications from young people who wish to take part. In this instance we will have to undertake a process to select those who demonstrate a high commitment to the project and to ensure a diversity of voices in the groups. We may contact you for an informal chat to learn more about you and what you would bring to the project.

The deadline for applications is 5pm on Sunday 4 April 2021. We will get back to all applicants by Thursday 8 April 2021.

Scottish Youth Theatre is committed to reducing barriers to access and promoting positive wellbeing.

  • We have a budget in place specifically for accessibility.
  • We have a digital participation budget for anyone concerned about their digital connection, data or equipment.
  • We will offer all Revolution Collective members optional confidential 121 therapeutic sessions with our wellbeing partner, Pure Potential Scotland.
  • This residency is flexible to suit your needs, centralising your experience in the project. If you have caring responsibilities, we are committed to any adjustments you may need.
