A young artist development programme founded on community building, intersectional collaboration and mutual learning exchange.
Date of Activity: April – July 2022
Location: Glasgow and Online
Age Range: 18-25
Across 10 weeks, 5 selected artists formed a collaborative learning community to explore the forms and ethics of their arts practice, supported by industry professionals, to make new work for in-person public audiences in July 2022. Each artist was furnished with a trainee bursary of £2000, access and wellbeing support, bespoke sessions with a creative mentor, dedicated time with a professional producer, professional development planning, a go-see fund as well as their own production budget to spend on making the work.
The Trajectories End Event was an evening of live performances, installations and interactive experiences exploring belonging, place and Glasgow that took place on 1 July 2022. Based at Civic House for the duration of the project, the 5 young artists collaborated and devised original work that responded to site, space and their stories within it.
“It was inspiring that Trajectories was opened as an opportunity to kind of do anything we wanted without heavy conditions put on us… as I have never before just been given total agency over my own work with a proper budget to accommodate it… By realising we and our ideas are being taken seriously and trusted, we take ourselves seriously and trust ourselves which is probably the most important step an emerging artist can take.”Lily Carmen Smith, Trajectories Artist
