A directing masterclass with cora bissett
Date of Activity: February 2024
Location: Glasgow
Age Range: 17-25
EVER wondered how a theatre director works? and how you can apply this to your own theatre practice?
Directing Fundamentals was an unmissable one-day workshop that took place at NTS Rockvilla for aspiring young theatre directors based in Glasgow and the West of Scotland. During the masterclass, award-winning director Cora Bissett demystified the directorial process, exploring how to take a scene from page to stage and get the most from your performers. 20 aspiring directors had the unique opportunity to get under the skin of Cora’s practice, discover their own directing style and ask burning questions they had about the industry.

One of Scotland’s leading theatre directors, Cora strives to make work which connects viscerally with audiences who feel theatre isn’t for them. Drawing on popular music forms, physical theatre and highly visual elements, she has taken real life contemporary stories and worked collaboratively to shape them into theatre shows which, though broad-ranging, often shine a light on the complex nature of injustice within systems.
More Fundamentals masterclasses will be coming throughout 2024!
“IT WAS GREAT TO GET TO ASK QUESTIONS OF SOMEONE WHOSE WORK YOU ADMIRE. I LOVED SEEING OTHER PEOPLE’S DIRECTORIAL SUGGESTIONS, PROCESSES AND INSTINCTS PLAY OUT.”
