Date of Activity: August 2024
Location: Aberdeen

A boy in a yellow hoodie leans over on the floor with a blue pen in his right hand, writing on a large sheet of paper on the floor. A girl looks over his right shoulder.
3 figures with backs to the camera face a stage with 4 chairs setup. 2 people sit on 2 of the chairs, facing each other chatting. The other two seats are empty, with 2 people stood over wrestling over an object in their hands.
A young woman with red hair wearing a black t-shirt with a Scottish Youth Theatre logo on it smiles towards another person, with her hands resting on her hips. Two other people stand next to her smiling.
A girl dressed in black sits on a wooden floor with her legs crossed under her. She looks down to her right at a sheet of paper on the floor. Other figures are in the frame, with a blue curtain in the background.

WHAT CAN A CLASSIC TALE TELL US ABOUT THE WORLD TODAY?

Pride & Prejudice* (*sort of). Little Wimmin. Nae Expectations…

Taking classic stories as a springboard to create your own narratives, Rip It Off was a 2-day intensive devising project that focused on ripping off and rewriting classic tales to make an urgent statement about the world today. Led by artist and director Sally Charlton, the project offered young theatre-makers based in Aberdeen an environment to explore contemporary themes through innovative adaptation and devising techniques. Using text, live performance and tech, a cohort of 18 young artists collaborated to perform an original short performance inspired by Macbeth.

A young person in a black t-shirt and rust coloured corduroy trousers stands alone, holding a script in their right hand, outstretching their left hand in front of them. They look inquisitively at the sheet of paper when performing it
