3 woman stand in a row looking down at scripts they are holding in their hands. 2 are out of focus to the left and right of the frame. The black woman in the centre of the frame smiles with one hand on her hip. She wears a black turtleneck and brown dungarees.

Eager to tell the stories you want to tell but unsure where to start?

Channel the power of the personal with Autobiography Fundamentals, an inspiring one-day workshop led by award-winning poet and playwright Hannah Lavery. In an open and supported environment, Hannah guided participants through her process crafting autobiographical work; discovering how prompts can transform initial ideas into writing, while considering the vulnerabilities of making work that draws on your own experiences.

Autobiography Fundamentals was a workshop for all writers and theatre-makers based in Glasgow and the West of Scotland, whether they had previous experience of autobiographical work or not.

Hannah Lavery is a Scottish poet and playwright. She was appointed Edinburgh Makar (or city poet) in November 2021 for a three-year term. She was also selected by Owen Sheers as one of his Ten Writers Asking Questions That Will Shape Our Future for the International Literature Showcase, a project from the National Writing Centre and the British Council in 2020. She is a former associate artist with the National Theatre of Scotland and one of the winners of the Peggy Ramsay/Film4 Award 2022 and has written for BBC Radio Four, Lyceum Theatre, Pitlochry Theatre, Northern Stage, Traverse Theatre and various publications including The Scotsman, The Guardian and Gutter Magazine. She was also a recipient of the Adopt a Playwright Award 2020 and the New Playwrights Award from Playwrights’ Studio Scotland 2019.
