SCRATCHING THE SURFACE OF YOUR NEXT SHOW

Calling all emerging artists based in Aberdeen, aged 18-28!

Whether you’re a solo artist or a small collective, Scratch That is a unique opportunity to develop new ideas in a supported environment, receive valuable feedback when work is in its early stages and connect with fellow artists and audiences in Aberdeen. If you’re eager to push boundaries and make your mark on the Scottish new theatre-making scene, we want to hear from you!

We’re looking for that performance idea you can’t stop thinking about… This could be:

  • An extract from a piece you’ve written
  • An original devised performance
  • Spoken word
  • Musical theatre
  • Drag
  • Cabaret
  • Got something else in mind? Surprise us!

Selected artists/collectives will receive:

  • A performance slot at Aberdeen Arts Centre
  • Directorial and dramaturgical support from a leading industry professional
  • Rehearsal space at Aberdeen Arts Centre for an agreed number of hours
  • Production and technical support from the AAC and SYT teams
  • Curated feedback from industry professionals and a live audience on the showcase night
  • A budget of £150 for production costs and expenses

How to apply:

  1. Provide an outline of your performance idea (max. 300 words)
  2. What do you need to make it happen? (production support, technical requirements etc.)
  3. Why is Scratch That the right performance opportunity for you now? (max. 200 words)
  4. Any additional supporting material that you think might help us understand your idea (short extract from a script, images, diagrams etc.)

Things to bear in mind:

  • Must be no longer than 20 minutes
  • Must be a self-contained performance
  • You’ll be sharing the stage with other artists, so please keep production choices minimal and flexible!
  • You will be expected to rehearse independently, as well as with support
  • You and/or your collective must be aged between 18 and 28

Please email your answers in a cover letter alongside any supporting material to Artistic Producer Annie Lowry Thomas on annie@scottishyouththeatre.org. You can learn more about the project on the Scratch That page. If you have any questions about the project or application process, please get in touch with Annie.

DEADLINE FOR APPLICATIONS – 23:59 ON THURSDAY 28TH NOVEMBER
