Two people sit cross legged on the floor looking at a laptop screen in front of them placed on a wooden floor. They are surrounded by different objects including a paper coffee cup, a laptop case, a stanley knife, a blue water bottle and a wheelchair. There are also some black stacked chairs behind them.
A group of young people crowd around an iPad placed in the middle of the floor between them. Some sit crossed legged on the floor, some sit on chairs, some are standing. A woman with short blonde hair in denim dungarees is kneeling next to the iPad adjusting it.

INTRIGUED ABOUT FREELANCING? INTERESTED IN PRODUCING? UNSURE ABOUT DIGITAL MARKETING? GAIN PRACTICAL INSIGHTS INTO THE BUSINESS OF THEATRE THROUGH THIS SERIES OF DIGESTIBLE DIGITAL SESSIONS. TURN YOUR PASSION INTO YOUR PROFESSION.

Fundamentals:ONLINE is a series of online webinars for all young theatre-makers looking to upskill and learn more about the practical ‘business of theatre’ from a host of industry professionals.

Through our Young Artist Survey last year, you told us what you needed most to equip yourself as you enter the industry. Whether you are looking to lay the groundwork and grow your understanding of what it takes to establish your career or gain some valuable insights from people who have already done so, these webinars will explore key areas important to any artist trying to make their way. The series will cover conversations about:

  • Producing
  • Working as a Freelancer
  • Preparing Yourself Digitally
  • Establishing Your Own Theatre Company
  • Applying for Opportunities

Be it the task of setting up your national insurance paperwork as a new freelancer, figuring out how to put on your own show, or learning the key things every panel looks for in an application, expand your knowledge about the industry and help turn your passion into your profession.

Attend one or attend them all – find the combination that best suits your needs. You can sign up to each individual session and learn a bit more about what they include via Eventbrite

The series will take place from 19:00 – 20:00 on Tuesdays or Wednesdays, from 11/03/25 to 09/04/25, and will be hosted on Zoom. Each session is scheduled to last approximately 1 hour, including Q&A time to ask any burning questions you may have. The webinars are intended for young theatre-makers, aged 18-28, living in Scotland. If you have any questions regarding the content of the sessions, you can get in touch with Artistic Producer Annie on annie@scottishyouththeatre.org

Should you have any access requirements in order to participate in the webinars, please contact Annie.

A young woman, dressed in a dark blue knitted jumper and maroon hijab while wearing thin, red framed glasses, sits at a white table and leans on a notebook while writing in it with a pen. There is clutter atop another table in the background.

“I HAVE FOUND IT INCREDIBLY VALUABLE SEEING HOW OTHER ARTISTS WORK; THEIR PROCESSES, IDEAS AND HOW THEY INTERPRET THE WORLD. THEATRE IS ANYTHING YOU WANT IT TO BE AND CAN MAKE OF IT, AND I HAVE FOUND THIS REALLY INSPIRING.”
